Two malnutrition cases in East Jakarta

Friday, February 01, 2008
JAKARTA: Two toddlers have been admitted to Cipto Mangunkusumo hospital, Central Jakarta, for malnutrition since last week.

Parents of the two girls, who live in Cijantung and Pondok Kopi in East Jakarta, said they found their children had suddenly lost their appetites and then slowly gotten sick over the past few months.

Hospital pediatrician Damayanti, said poverty was not the main cause of the malnutrition.
"Their parents feed them well but they don't pay attention to food nutrition," she said as quoted by Antara.

Last year the hospital recorded frequent cases of malnutrition among babies and toddlers -- an average of 10 patients every month. --JP
