DUBAI - The Criminal Court of First Instance on June 3 sentenced an Indonesian maid to three years in jail, followed by deportation, after it found her guilty of intentionally killing her new-born baby.
M.H, 33, was charged with killing the new-born by strangling her and then battering her head to the floor, in Dubai Hospital, on November 1 last year.
S.J, 40, a physician, who was on her duty at Dubai Hospital that day, testified to the court that she was called to the Internal Diseases Section of Women, where she saw the defendant lying on a bed. "Next to her was a new-born covered with blood-stained blanket. I examined the baby. She was very cold pale. Her heart was not beating," she told the court.
She said they immediately carried the baby to the Emergency room trying to revive her. It was then when they noticed scratches around her neck. It was also found that the baby had a skull fracture. She had died almost six hours earlier, the witness testified.
