KUALA LUMPUR: Housewife Yim Pek Ha, accused of abusing her former Indonesian maid, is not mentally ill, her husband told a Sessions Court.
Businessman Hii Ik Tiing, 42, said he knew that Yim did not have mental problems and that he had also declined an offer from his friend to portray her as a mentally ill person to escape the legal actions taken against her.
“I declined the offer as I know my wife did not do it (abuse their maid),” he said yesterday.
Instead, he asked his lawyers to apply for their former maid, Nirmala Bonat, to be examined by an independent psychiatrist.
“It is because maybe she (maid) did it (the injuries) to herself,” the 10th defence witness testified before Judge Akhtar Tahir yesterday.
Yim, 40, is facing four counts of causing grievous hurt to her former maid Nirmala at Villa Putera condominium in Jalan Tun Ismail here between January and May 2004.
Hii also said he had retained Nirmala to work in his house despite being informed by Yim of her (maid) strange behaviour like sleeping naked in the guest room, banging her head on the wall, challenging to drink dirty water as well as talking to herself because he did not have high expectations of her.
The hearing continues today.
