The National Body for the Placement and Protection of Migrant Workers (BNP2TKI) have sent 149 workers trying to go to Malaysia illegally back to their homes in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, on Tuesday.
Chief Brig. Edy Suarsana, a police officer in charge, said that the workers were recruited and promised jobs in Malaysia by an agency in Lombok, but they did not have legal documents as foreign workers.
The workers had paid around Rp 3 million (US$327) each to the agent.
Edy said that these workers came to Denpasar separately from Central, East and West Lombok since Aug. 19. They were promised a flight from Solo, Central Java, to Kuala Lumpur.
On Aug. 21, some 80 of them arrived in Adiusmarmo Airport in Solo, but officers found out that they did not have any legal documents and sent them back to Bali. No representatives from the agency showed up.
The officers later found out there were other illegal workers in Denpasar.
"We send them home immediately because they don't have any certainties here," told Tempointeraktif.com in Denpasar. (dre)
