Agent to pay for runaway maid

The Star Online, Tuesday August 12, 2008

JOHOR BARU: The tribunal court here has ordered a foreign worker agency to return part of the advanced salary of a runaway maid to her former employer.

Consumer Claims Tribunal president Rahazlan Affandi Abdul Rahim ruled that Agensi Pekerjaan Fomas (Fomas) has to refund RM1,008 to Goh Tik Wah.

Goh’s wife Ang Leong Ing told the court that she had paid RM2,640 in advance for her Indonesian maid who started work on Jan 3.

“But she ran away three months later,” said Ang.

She felt that the agency had failed to provide her with a responsible maid and demanded the full refund of RM2,640.

Fomas general manager Lim Soen Lie agreed to refund Goh – minus the maid’s working days of three months and 17 days.
