THE Government is considering taking action against agents if their foreign maids run away from employers before their contract is up, reported Tamil Nesan.

Home Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Radzi Sheikh Ahmad said the Government was forced to take action against agents due to the increasing number of runaway maids.

He said his ministry had received reports that about 1,200 foreign maids were reported missing by their employers every month.

He said the Government felt agents should also take responsibility and that it was unfair that action was taken only against employers.

> The Cabinet has given the Human Resources Ministry the nod to set up a commission to look into labour conditions in the hotel industry, reported Makkal Osai.

Its Minister Datuk Seri Dr Fong Chan Onn said the commission would be given six months to determine whether there was a need to establish a minimum wage for hotel workers.
