Indonesian domestic helpers tortured by employers in New York

New York - Two Indonesian domestic helpers have been tortured and locked up by their employers in Long Island, Nassau County, New York, prosecutors said.

The Associated Press reported on Tuesday, according to prosecutors` files, the two female domestic helpers were Samirah and Nona.

Reports said the two Indonesian domestic helpers had been beaten up, soaked with hot water and locked up by their employers. They were forbidden to go outside their employers` house for five years.

Samirah and Nona were reported to have arrived in the United States using B-1 visa in 2002. They had been working as domestic helpers with Varsha Mahender Sabhnani (35) and her husband Mahender Murlidhar Sabhanani (51).(*)
