KUALA LUMPUR: The owner of a foreign workers agency was fined RM40,000 for harbouring five illegal immigrants and possessing 25 passports which did not belong to her.

Suhaili Mohd Yusof, 34, had been charged with harbouring five Indon-esian women at her house in Taman Pelangi, Sentul around midnight on Sept 20, 2005.

A second and third charge had accused her of having seven Indon-esian passports in her possession at a fast-food outlet in Pusat Bandar Damansara around 10pm and another 18 passports at her home around midnight the same day.

Suhaili pleaded guilty to all the charges.

She asked for a lenient sentence through her counsel, and also claimed that she had been waiting for her agency permit, which had expired in 2003, to be renewed by the Immigration Department at the time of the offence.

Magistrate Tasnim Abu Bakar ordered Suhaili to pay the fine or serve a 14-month jail sentence.

She paid the fine.
