In the 9.30pm incident last Tuesday, the 40-year-old construction worker who was on his way back to Pontianak (Kalimantan) panicked when he saw several uniformed policeman entering the express bus he was in.
The man, who had overstayed in the state for six weeks, thought he could buy his way out by bribing the two policeman with RM30.
However, sticking to their oath and the "Saya Anti Rasuah" (I'm Against Corruption) badge they wear on their chest, the two policeman apprehended the foreigner and lodged a report against him for trying to bribe them.
The two were part of a police team from Serian Police Headquarters who were conducting random checks along the Serian/Tebedu trunk road on vehicles heading towards the Kalimantan border from Kuching and vice verca.
Serian police chief Assistant Superintendant Mohd Jemali Umi said the Indonesian man had been remanded for seven days pending investigation.
"That man had an expired social visit pass and on top of that tried to bribe my men. We are very proud of our personnel who have shown exemplary level of integrity," Jemali added.
