PETALING JAYA: Malaysian Association of Foreign Housemaids Agencies (Papa) is unhappy with a government-announced insurance scheme, which they claimed is too expensive.

Papa sources said the association had drawn up a proposal for a cheaper premium. It is scheduled to hold a press conference today to state its stand following the announcement on the insurance scheme by Home Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Radzi Sheikh Ahmad yesterday.

Last month, Papa president Datuk Raja Zulkepley Dahalan announced its comprehensive group coverage for foreign maids. It offered coverage of RM48 premium a year or RM75 for two years.

Papa’s insurance scheme will pay up to RM50,000 for accidental death during the course of work and RM50,000 for permanent disability. It also covers hospitalisation, cost of operation and weekly financial relief for up to 10 weeks.
