Maid found murdered

The Star Online, March 19, 2008

KUALA LUMPUR: An Indonesian maid was found dead with head injuries in the double-storey house of a senior government officer in Taman Tun Dr Ismail here.

The 34-year-old woman from Medan was found sprawled on the floor of the living room at about 7pm yesterday by the officer when he returned home.

City CID chief Senior Asst Comm II Ku Chin Wah said the maid was last seen alive by one of the officer's children at about 11am.

He said the maid, who had been working for the officer for the last six years, had serious injuries to the head believed to have been caused by a hard, blunt object.

The house was partially ransacked and there were attempts to pry open the master bedroom door which was locked.

“The maid had some jewellery of her own but we have yet to find it,” SAC Ku said, adding that there was no sign of a break-in, indicating that the intruders probably knew the maid.

There were however signs that a struggle had occurred in the house.

SAC Ku said neighbours did not hear screams nor see anyone coming out of the house.

He said the maid’s body was sent to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital for a post-mortem, adding that police have classified the case as robbery-cum-murder.

In another incident, two men broke into the car of newly appointed Deputy Human Resources Minister, Datuk Noraini Ahmad, in front of a fast-food outlet also in Taman Tun Dr Ismail yesterday and stole a laptop, cassette player and a smart tag.

SAC Ku said the thieves took the items from Noraini's vehicle at about 8.30am.

Noraini is also Puteri Umno chief.

“A witness saw two men with helmets and visors break into the parked car before speeding off on a motorcycle.

“Initial investigation revealed the registration number on the motorcycle used by the thieves to be false,” said SAC Ku.

He appealed to anyone with information on the duo or the incident to contact the Brickfields police or the nearest police station.
