MALACCA: Jealousy over a woman is believed to have been the cause of a fight involving more than 50 Indonesian workers at the Melaka Sentral bus and taxi terminal two days ago.
State Deputy CID chief Supt R. Gunarajan said the incident occurred Sunday at about 4.50pm between the two groups of migrant workers from Aceh and Jawa. "It is believed that one of them had a misunderstanding with the other group because of a woman.
"They later made the terminal as a meeting point to settle the problem which escalated into a fight," he said Tuesday when met after the state level Royal Malaysian Police day celebrations held at the Malacca Police Contingent Headquaters in Bukit Beruang.
He added that police who were called in to investigate the fight arrested 35 men including two who sustained injuries during the clash. A hammer believed to have been used in the fight was also seized.
Supt Guna said all the suspects detained had valid travel documents and were arrested under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting with weapons.
