Nolato Kuala Lumpur Sdn Bhd of Shah Alam, Selangor, was found to have 112 illegal Indonesian workers among its 150-strong workforce during a raid by immigration officers, Immigration Director of Enforcement Datuk Ishak Mohamed said today.
LCT Supply Sdn Bhd and LNN Trade Wind Sdn Bhd, both agencies supplying migrant workers and based in Klang, Selangor, were found to have provided the illegal workers to that company, he said in a statement here.
He said the 112 workers were now under detention at the Lenggeng Immigration Depot in Negeri Sembilan and that the three companies faced prosecution and, upon conviction, a fine of RM10,000 or up to RM50,000 for every illegal migrant worker employed or sheltered.
"Preliminary investigation showed that the company was promised local workers. The list of workers sent to the company contained the identity card numbers of the workers, many of them purportedly from Sabah. However, the identity cards produced by four of the workers was found to be false," he said.
Ishak also said that a Swede factory manager faced the possibility of his work permit being revoked for having played a part in employing the illegal migrant workers at the company.
He said the department would continue to conduct inspections in the Klang Valley following information received about employers engaging illegal migrant workers.
"Enforcement will be ongoing as some employers are adamant and prefer to employ illegal migrant workers," he said.
