PUTRAJAYA: A multinational company manufacturing a well-known brand of electrical products will face court action for hiring 243 illegal foreign workers.
The workers, who were mainly Indonesian, were detained at the manufacturer's factory in Taman Perindustrian Subang Utama, Shah Alam, in a raid on Wednesday night.
Thirty-nine Immigration Department officers conducted the raid with the help of nine officers from the National Registration Department.
Of the 319 factory workers checked, 243 were found to be without work permits and some even possessed fake Malaysian identity cards.
Immigration enforcement chief Datuk Ishak Mohamed said the factory's operations manager, a Malaysian, was also detained.
The company could be charged both under the Immigration Act, and the National Registration Act.
