The maid fled from her employer's house in Taman Desa Melati in Nilai near here. She ran into the street and sought help from a stranger.
According to a hospital source, the maid had serious burns on her mouth and bruises on her face. The woman was also bleeding from her ears and could not open her mouth after she was allegedly forced to drink boiling water.
"She was in bad shape and we have admitted her to the surgical ward.
"The insides of her mouth and throat are badly burnt and she is now under observation and is gradually recovering," said the source.
The maid also had injuries to other parts of her body. There were also signs of other wounds which have since healed.
"Based on our medical examination, the maid has gone through hell and apart from the physical injuries, she is also traumatised," said the source.
Seremban district police chief Assistant Commissioner Saiful Azly Kamaruddin said the maid had been working with the employer since June.
"Based on what we have managed to get out of the maid so far, she escaped from her employer's house at 9.50pm on Thursday," he said.
The stranger took her to the Nilai police station and the police rushed her to the hospital, he said.
Saiful said the employer, a 33-year-old woman, had sent the maid to her mother's house in Batang Benar, Selangor, to do some housework on Thursday morning.
"When the maid returned home later that day, the employer allegedly confronted her and claimed that she had been lazy and had not performed her duties properly.
The woman then allegedly used a lighted candle to burn the maid's mouth and forced the Indonesian to drink boiling water through a straw.
He said when the police were taking her to the hospital, the maid was bleeding from the ears and could not speak.
"We have identified the employer and will get a report from the doctors at the hospital.
"Once she is able to speak, we will get her statement and detain the employer for questioning."
