Malaysia still needs Indonesian migrant workers and therefore would keep on trying to improve their welfare and salary, visiting Minister of Information Seri Zainudin Bin Maidin said Tuesday.

Malaysia needs Indonesian workers to be employed in the industrial sector, plantations, construction, and as housemaids or shop helpers, he was quoted by the national Antara news agency as saying during a visit to the Eats Java capital of Surabaya.

He said Malaysia will improve workers' salaries, especially among Indonesians. An Indonesian migrant worker gets a salary about 2,800 ringgits monthly.

Indonesia is the largest labor exporter to Malaysia, with some 4 million Indonesians now working in the neighbor.

The two countries share relatively the same culture and speak almost the same Malay language.
