Husband freed, maid charged

AN Indonesian maid has been charged with the gruesome killing of her female employer in Klang.

Indah Wijayanti, in her 20s, allegedly slit housewife Kek Huey Lian's throat as the woman lay sleeping in her home in Taman Bayu Perdana on 2 Jul, reported The Star.

Investigators have recovered a knife from the ground floor of the two-storey house with the suspect's help, reported Guang Ming Daily News.

Madam Kek was killed in the second-floor bedroom.

There was no blood on the knife and the police believe it had been washed.

No plea was recorded after the charge was read out to Indah on Monday.

HUSBAND RELEASED

In another development, Madam Kek's husband, who had been detained with Indah after the murder, was released on Sunday after two weeks in remand.

It is believed that there was insufficient evidence to implicate him. He is expected to become a witness for the prosecution.

The 42-year-old businessman had inititally been suspected of having a relationship with the maid.

The neighbour's maid, who was also detained, has also been released and may take the stand as a prosecution witness, reported Sin Chew Daily.

Madam Kek, 41, was found semi-naked with her throat slit. The house had been ransacked and the police believe her killer tried to make the incident look like a rape and burglary.

However, a post-mortem showed Madam Kek had not been sexually assaulted.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Alfred Egin has applied for the case to be transferred to the Shah Alam High Court.

The application was allowed and the case will be mentioned again on 3 Aug.
