SINGAPORE -- A human resource manager in Singapore was cleared of failing to provide a safe working environment for an Indonesian maid, who fell down three storeys while cleaning windows.
A Ministry of Manpower prosecutor withdrew the charge against Tan Puay Cheng, 37, who was given a discharge amounting to an acquittal on Friday.
The prosecutor told the court that the matter had been compounded.
Tan was originally accused of failing to comply with the conditions of a work permit issued to her maid, Nia Wulandari, 23, by telling her to clean the windows of her flat in Choa Chu Kang North by standing on the kitchen sink or using a ladder.
The alleged offence took place between February 25 and March 16 last year.
The maid apparently fell from the third-floor unit and fractured her spine in the early hours of March 16 last year.
