‘Sacked maid sent threatening SMS’

The Star Online, Wednesday September 10, 2008

KLANG: A maid who was sacked after a break-in may be behind yesterday’s robbery which claimed the life of her employer’s wife.

Mohd Yusof Abdul, 66, said the family home at the D’Kayangan housing estate had earlier been broken into on Sept 1, and the family had suspected the maid to be behind it.

“We terminated her services and sent her back to Medan last Saturday,” said Mohd Yusof, whose wife Raja Noriana Raja Ahmad succumbed to injuries inflicted by the robbers in the 4.45am incident.

The robbers had slashed Raja Noriana’s throat and wrist. She died on the way to the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital.

According to Mohd Yusof, his wife received a telephone message on Monday night from their disgruntled former maid.

“The SMS read ‘Saya tak puas hati kena berhenti kerja. saya kenal banyak kawan di Malaysia (I am unhappy over being dismissed from work. I know many friends in Malaysia)’,” he said.

“My wife told me about the SMS, but we did not make much of it as we had taken precautions after the Sept 1 robbery, with intruders tying up the family and escaping with a laptop and handphones.

“In fact, my wife had told me we need not worry about break-ins any more as we had fitted grilles,” he said.

The robbers had entered their home through a bathroom window when Mohd Yusof, Raja Noriana and their two daughters Erika, 20 and Puteri Akila, 18, were about to have their sahur meal.

Erika, who tried to escape by jumping from an upstairs window, broke her back and injured her legs.
