JOHOR BARU: Two Indonesian workers were buried alive in a ditch, following a landslide at the new Permai Hospital construction site in Jalan Persiaran Selaseh in Kempas, here on Monday.
The incident occurred when Mahmood and Masri, both 36, from Lombok, Indonesia, were installing pipes in a sewage drain at 5.30pm.
Johor Baru North district police chief ACP Ruslan Hassan said the two were laying pipes with another worker in a three-metre deep ditch.
However the third worker, known as Redianto, 25, had climbed out of the ditch just before the earth collapsed into the hole.
The other workers then called the Fire and Rescue Department.
Mahmood's body was recovered at 7.45pm and Masri's, five minutes later. The bodies were sent to Sultanah Aminah Hospital for post- mortem.
